Why isn't my mobile network kicking in when I turn off wifi?

This may be a really silly question (my son says i'm getting too old) but i'vejust upgraded to a Z3 from a samsung galaxy x3. When at work i would just turn off Wi-fi and G3 would kick in.
With my new Sony Z3 this doesn't happen. Is there something i should be doing?

Welcome to the forums. The icons may have changed. If you see an H next to the signal bars, you are on 3G.
