my slide to answer my lg optimum doesn't work can I change the setting?

I hit it with my finger an it just keeps ringing it doesn't recognize my finger..It rings til they hang up then I try to call them back. very frustrating..I rather have just a button.

Welcome to Android Central! Which Optimus do you have? Are you sliding the answer button adequately to whichever side it has to be slid to? Does the touchscreen not respond to your touch?
