How do I get my phone to register on a network?

Not Registered On Network

Bought this phone second hand, they said it couldn't receive texts or calls but all other functions worked.

I got it to work for 1 day by changing it to GSM Only in network settings, the next day it stopped working.

A few months later after just using its non phone functions, I got it to work for another day by installing the "2 degrees App" (2 degrees is the sim provider). Again it did not work the next day.

I have tried rooting it - didn't help.

IMEI is the same on the back of the phone as shown with *#06#, I don't exactly know what this means but saw it mentioned in a number of fix suggestions.

I'm fine to do some surgery on the phone if needed but don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. Feels like it would be software since it selectively worked as a phone, albeit never for over 24 hours.

Re: Not Registered On Network

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried checking the IMEI online to make sure it isn't blacklisted (i.e., deactivated due to the phone having been lost or stolen)?
