"Ok Google" did not provide information for simple search "Walmart." Keying in to Chrome didn't either. I had to search on "Maps" to eventually find a phone number for the local store.

Welcome to Android Central! Does Google Search work normally on mobile data? Are you only talking about wi-fi networks outside of your house?

Did you have your GPS on, or at least Location services on, when you were away from home? It needs to know where you are for a simple search like that - it's not going to show you a list of 4,000 stores. (Mine seems to work, even if I specify which of the 2 stores we have in town just by street name.)
