How to find out if my UNCHARGED, completely dead battery Kindle is 1st or 2nd generation?

I have misplaced the charger for my old Kindle and don't know if it is 1st or 2nd generation. I am afraid to charge it using any charger that fits for fear of causing damage due to a wattage incompatibility. How should I proceed? It appears there are different specs for 1st and 2nd generation chargers, or doesn't it really matter.

Are the chargers oem from another manufacturer, or generic? If from another manufacturer you should be OK. Other wise, consider a replacement if you want to play it safe.
