Fully updated T-Mobile s3 used to get mediocre but acceptable battery life. I just noticed that Swype is using 58% of my battery reserves! I tried turning off the Living Language and Cellular data features, but there's no improvement. Why is this happening?

Go back to the Samsung keyboard and see if it's still happening. If it is, uninstall Swype, restart the phone, then install Swype from the Play Store (not from a backup) - the app could have become corrupted just enough to still work but eat a lot of power. (BTW, it's using 58% of the total amount being used, not 58% of the total battery charge. If all apps that used any power were listed to 3 decimal places, and you added them all up, you'd always get about 99.999% used [rounding error - you might also always get 100.001%] - that's 99.999% of the power being used is being used by something, even if it's only 5% of the battery charge that's being used.)
