Does turning automatic sync option in Gmail use a lot of my plans data? Not so concerned with battery since the Note 4 can handle heavy usage. Thanks!

It uses data but very little even if you have 20 emails at a time. You can keep tabs on how much data the app is using in the Data Usage list.

If you mean does it use any data at all to check, I imagine a few kb but I can't say for sure.

    So it's an interesting question.

There was a thread for a student asking if they could survive on a 50mb a month plan on a new S5, depending on school wifi, and some broke down what it takes to view a web page etc. Ultimately most said no, it would be impossible in practice, but do - able.

You can just pull mail manually of course, but every 3 hours is being very economical.

So I don't know how much data it takes to check, someone will, but if you can try it, the Data usage will tell you what the email app is using, though other services may be called in.

If you don't get more responses, ask again in Android Central Community - General Help and How To, or Introductions.
