I recently got a unlocked note 4 that was originally an at&nt phone, I swapped the sim card in and it works fine, but I still use a lot of the at&nt software. My main concern is software updates, I use the at&nt servers for updates even though I am not with them, will this be a problem?

Since you don't have an AT&T account, you can't. And you won't get Android updates, because TMobile doesn't send out AT&T ROM updates, so you'll have to flash updates manually. (I can't think of an AT&T app that can't be replaced by a better one from the Play Store. I haven't used a single AT&T app in my phone since I got it, except to uninstall their Contacts app, since it kept popping up and annoying me.)

BTW, you did things what we consider backwards. The AT&T bootloader is permanently locked, the TMobile one isn't. A lot of people bought TMobile Notes and use them on AT&T. That way you're on AT&T (better coverage in most places, better tech support), but you can flash kernels, custom recoveries, ROMs, etc.
