Welcome to Android Central! Whether or not your device comes with a preinstalled antivirus app like McAfee or Lookout depends on the device manufacturer (or the wireless carrier, if it's a phone). So if you don't see an antivirus app in your App Drawer, then it didn't come preinstalled. You could easily install one from Google Play Store, but 3rd party antivirus apps are generally not necessary. For one thing, you can set it so that Google can scan the apps on your device to look for anything suspicious--go to the Google Settings app, tap Security, and turn on "Scan Device for Security Threats."

More importantly, though, Android malware can't do anything unless you approve its installation. So you can easily avoid it by not accepting strange app installation requests, not clicking on random popups that appear when you're browsing shady sites, and installing apps from reputable app sources like Google Play Store or Amazon Appstore. Even then, look through the reviews to see if anyone complains about annoying adware or other suspicious behavior that could be attributed to that app.
