    importing from sim card resulted in "no contacts on your sim card"

    Hello. Welcome to Android Central.

    A sim card can store very little information, just a few dozen names and numbers.

    I don't know what device you have. A Nexus or a Samsung?
    Have you a setting for Contacts - Settings - Contacts to Display - All.

    They should restore to your new phone with the same Google account, if they were entered by default as Google contacts.

    They may otherwise be synced to a Samsung account?
