Is there a way to go back to previous system update?

There's a difference between removing a version (format the system partition, leaving you with a useless phone) and installing an earlier ROM (which can be done on some phones, and not on others, for a change to an earlier major version [like 5 to 4]). Check the Moto G forums on XDA Forums to find people who have done it or know it can't be done for your phone.

Without some advanced work, it's quite a challenge. You risk making the phone unusable, or "bricking" it, if you're not careful. Rukbat guided you in the right direction for that. Is there a particular problem that maybe the great minds here might be able to help with?

I have the first gen moto g and downloaded the lollipop update and I can't call, send/receive texts download apps, or use my mobile data. I went to boost mobile and they want $120 to put my phone back to kitkat 4.4 which is crap honestly...

Please read the earlier posts in the topic. Rukbat gave some good suggestions. I am also curious if there is a particular feature or change with Marshmallow that you don't particularly care for.

Do a Hard reset or Factory reinstall. Check your update is gone or not. If you want to downgrade follow this thread: Moto G 2015 Android Development and install your desired version

    Hope this works...!!

If the OS is already updated the hard reset/factory reset won't help anything.

Then you will have the only option to Root your device and install the Kitkat compatible version custom rom.
