how to unlock my phone if i have forgotten the pattern?

i forgot the pattern to unlock my smartphone MOTO G.it has lollipop installed on it.how to unlock it avoiding the reset factory settings?
i have read many posts and most of them gives an answer to do it via entering your google account details..but on android lollipop no such option pops out where it asks me my google account details.kindly help

Try to enter your password incorrect 5 times and it should show unlock using google account.

i have tried it.but even after entering wrong patterns for 30 or 40 times,it doesn't show any option to unlock using google account.

Try logging in to your Google account on a PC. You may be able to change your PIN or password from there.
