Does T-Mobile need to give an unlock code for the Nexus 5?

does t mobile need to give an unlock code for the nexus 5?

I paid off my nexus 5 that I got through t mobile. When I check the device unlock status on my account it says locked but eligible to be unlocked. I called t mobile and told the customer service rep I wanted to unlock my phone. She told me I would get an email with the unlock code in 24 hours if it was in their database, or it could take up to 2 weeks if they had to contact the manufacturer. It's been 4 days and no email yet. Does t mobile need to give an unlock code for the nexus 5 or was she giving me the runaround? I thought the nexus 5 is unlocked.

Welcome to Android Central! That service agent is somewhat clueless. All Nexus 5's are unlocked, regardless of where you got it. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-12783
