Why isn't my HTC One M8 recognizing audio cables?

HTC One M8 will not recognize audio cable

I'm trying to connect my phone to my AV receiver and the music only comes out of the phones speakers, i have tried 2 cables and still the same, any help is appreciated!

The phone jack may be defective, or the AV receiver may not be presenting a load to the jack. (Some phones switch when you plug a plug into the jack, even if nothing is connected, some measure the load being connected to the jack. If that's the case, you need someone to make a loaded cable for you.)
