How do I activate the proximity meter on my S5 mini?

How do I activate the proximity meter on my s5 mini.

I would like the screen to be inactive during a call so that I don't press buttons like "end call" while I'm talking on the phone. Thnx Jaco.

Welcome to Android Central! Has it always been like that? I don't think there's a way to turn off the proximity sensor, so if yours isn't working, it might be a hardware defect. Or there might be some other app that is interfering with its normal function.
