Why does my reception light on my Samsung s3 android stay gray when it says I'm Connected?

Why am I not getting reception from Wi Fi on my Samsung s3 android? The reception light stay gray on Wi Fi yet on the other bar there is a bright green line under a bright green Wi Fi icon. When I go to Wi Fi information it says I'm connected. I have removed the battery and rebooted with no help.
