Why is my Galaxy S5 on Verizon repeatedly beeping when it reaches full charge?

After the latest system upgrade in February 2015 my Galaxy S5 began beeping after it reaches a full charge. I typically charge the phone at night. When a full charge is reached the screen will light and it will make the same sound as it typically makes when I unplug the charger. Within about one minute the screen will light again and it will make the sound typically heard when I plug in the charger. This process will repeat until I disconnect the phone from the charger.
