Samsung Gear won't download additional data?

[AC Question]

I got a new Gear S shipped from a friend in HK, and I'm not sure if it's something to do with the watch or the app on my Note 3, but whenever I try to connect (this is the first time), a dialog box pops up saying that it is downloading additional data, goes to 99% then notifies me that the "download failed. Try again". Is this a common issue? I just downloaded the app today.
