When I receive text and calls, why does my voice sound like static on the other end?

I can receive text and calls, but my voice sounds like static to the other end

No one can hear my voice

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Does this happen on speakerphone or with wired/Bluetooth headsets as well? If not, then it's a problem with the phone's primary microphone (the speakerphone typically uses the secondary mic).
