Are sim card slot problems related to motherboard of a mobile?

A

AC Question

I have a Samsung Galaxy Core mobile 14 months old and was functioning fine till I changed my simcard a few days back. The phone has dual sim ports. The number 1 sim port stopped recognising the sim card and started to show emergency services only. The sim card works fine in other mobiles. I took the mobile to the service center and they tell me that the motherboard needs to be replaced.

It's certainly possible. The port itself could be bad, the motherboard could be bad. If the port is mounted on the motherboard, most shops won't try replacing just the port - they could easily damage the motherboard, then they'd have to pay for a new one.
