Is there a way of blocking specific apps from using data bandwidth?

There are only 2-3 apps I want to use when not in a WiFi zone. With my Iphone I was able to turn off specific apps from using data. Can you help? I am new to the Android world.

You can restrict apps to use background mobile data. Go to settings, data usage and select an app on the list. Scroll down and tap on "restrict background data".
