How can I get my Moto G Titan to turn on?

Moto G Titan ran flat during update

Moto g no longer boots up. I have unlocked bootloader. Can't establish adb connection except on the recovery screen when attempting to adb sideload. The process aborts saying amongst other errors 'read only'? wipe/reset doesn't do anything. Can't boot into the phone to allow USB Debugging. Is there a way to format the phone and reinstall android or anything else? Don't really care about the phone anymore but would like to achieve something useful out of it.
