Can Android Device Manager force login after factory reset?

I don't like using pin/swipe protection on my phone. However, I like the encryption feature that requires me to sign into my google account after a factory reset. I'm wondering that if I were to lose my phone, could I sign into device manager and lock my phone to require a password if my phone is factory reset.

Sounds like you're looking for the "killswitch" that was added in 5.1, for devices shipping with that version.

Yep. I'm talking about the kill switch. But from everything I heard, you have to have some kind of lock screen security to activate this feature. I'm wondering that if I lock my phone using device manager after it's lost, if that will still activate the kill switch.
