    Hey all,

I am a prepaid Android user and I currently own an older than the stone age at this point Samsung Galaxy S III (currently running on a custom KitKat CM rom). Obviously I am looking to upgrade to a new phone this year and have been looking at the latest releases, such as the HTC One M9 and the rumored LG G4. Both of them have SD card slots. I liked having external storage in the old days of Android (think Gingerbread) because you could move large apps and games to the SD card. However, at some point Google decided to limit what could be placed on the SD card without root access and a good amount of additional workarounds for the Galaxy S 3. Don't get me wrong, I like root, but this was a major frustration point for me.

Is Android still like that today? Is SD card use still restricted to copying over smaller, simpler files like documents and pictures, and not large apps and games? If so, would it be better for me to get a phone with one large, non removable hard drive?
