Why are there no keyboard extensions to add useful features?

why no keyboard extensions to add useful features?

My A4tech kb had 18 configurable buttons allowing me to use one to compose and then pop up my entire letterhead, others to hold long passwords and foreign marks, the English pound sign, etc. Miss it greatly.

Welcome to Android Central! Was your old keyboard designed for Android, or were those customizable for PC or iPad only? Bluetooth keyboards with custom buttons have to be designed specifically for Android. Universal Bluetooth keyboards usually don't allow that kind of customizability.
