Why can't I get on my messages?

[AC Question]

After installing the new Lollipop update my Experia Z1 restarted. Everything's fine apart from when I click on my messages I have none and there's nothing which says 'create new message' I've turned it off and took the sim out and still nothing. Why won't my messages work?
