HTC One M8 not responding and unable to charge.

My HTC One M8 recently just closed down soon after I noticed it started becoming quite buggy when I tried to lock it (sometimes just wouldn't lock and other times randomly locked for no reason). Now the screen has just gone black and nothing happens when I try to click the power button to show the lock screen, the screen just remains black. To make matters worse, when I try to charge it to see if it possibly just ran out of battery it won't charge.
Is this something to do with the battery or something else and how do I get it fixed? Thanks.

With any luck it will be a failed battery, because that's easily fixed. But first, try a lengthy charge, then see whether you can boot into Recovery for a Cache Partition wipe.

"Lengthy" meaning about 24 hours. Then leave the charger plugged in when you try to get it running.
