Why did the Lollipop update change all my colors schemes on the S4 Active?

After the 5.0.1 update the colors are not the same. Where backgrounds were black they are now white and on some of the banners I have an ugly orange color. There is text areas that have changed to a greenish yellow that is really sickly. I liked the colors on my Samsung S4 Active previous to this upgrade. If I needed to buy a new phone today I would avoid anything that had colors like this.

Agreed. One of the reasons I converted from long-time iPhone user to Android is the periodic changes - not sure "update" is accurate - that were IMO pointless and ugly. Now Lollipop forces Uber on me and changes the dark backgrounds to an offensive white. Whether at work or in bed with a sleeping partner, I need to be discreet. Lollipop's change to white makes me stand out like a lighthouse. I can only hope Android provides the freedom to change the background colors back. I have 3 family members soon to upgrade phones, right now the iPhone 6 is looking good again.
