Why is my S6 keep reconnecting when plugged into Car USB?

I had an S4 and I use a 10ft USB cable that I have routed around my car to the dash board to charge my phone during driving. For some reason, with my S6, when I have the USB plugged in, the screen will turn on every few seconds and the phone will make the USB connected sound. If you are listening to music or have navigation running, this is very annoying, because your volume lowers to make the USB connection sound, and I cannot verify whether the phone is actually charging or just keeps disconnecting and connecting. I have verified that this does not happen on my old phone.
