Why are these lines appearing on my forward facing camera?

When i load up the camera app, on the main camera, the picture has vertical lines all the way through it, this is also the case when a picture is taken? is this a software problem? or a problem with the unit? it has never been dropped, scratched, water damaged or rooted.

If you use a different camera app (3rd party camera, or from another app like Instagram or Facebook), do the lines appear? If so, I'm afraid it could be the sensor that's damaged, and that would require repairs.

Do the lines appear at the same spot all the time? Do they move? Do they appear at random places?
