Screen goes black when making a call?

when making phone calls, the screen goes black and I cannot get it back to do anything, must power phone off to disconnect call, the phone is an Alcatel onetouch idol 2s

That is a setting in the phone settings to turn off the screen while its near your face.
You could also try checking your proximity sensor to see if its working.

It's probably the proximity sensor - sensing your face, then failing to stop sensing it. It's not a rare problem, it's not a common problem, but we've seen it often here.
