New update installed last week - it's awful - how do I revert to the previous system?

AC Question

I installed an update last week and it seems to have totally changed my S4 almost to someone else's one! The home screen is different with just a few icons on and I can't get the phone icon without scrolling down an alphabetic list, the same with facebook. It's just awful. Vodafone adviser in the shop said I could use Samsung Kies (can't get to the bottom of that!) to save my photos etc then try a factory reset as he couldn't do anything. He did say though that he'd be trying to reverse the install he'd made on his own Samsung S4. My phone tells me that the Android version I have is 5.0.1. Can anyone suggest what I should do as I just want the previous version back.

Before considering anything drastic, have you tried a Cache Partition wipe? It's easy enough to do and causes no loss of personal data. It sounds as if you may have a problem, which the wipe may fix.
