When talking with my phone touching my ear or cheek, the phone texts people, opens apps

I have recently noticed this problem. When I am talking on the phone and it touches my ear or cheek, it activates and sends texts, does google searches, starts games, etc. it seems like the screen is too sensitive. Any solutions?

Your proximity detector (the thing that senses that something is near the phone) went bad. It has to be replaced.
