Why am I getting the error code Can't E: /tmp/update-script.log when I try to hard reset or wipe data?

Welcome to Android Central! A few more details might be helpful. Which device? Are you doing the reset from the Settings>Backup & Reset​ menu, or the Recovery Menu? Is the device rooted?

i did the backup and reset menu from the settings. please help me sir
