Are we (Galaxy S4 users) required to download this lollipop whatever?

I am with Verizon now, want to switch with same phone to Sprint.
Are we required to download/install this new lollipotp? It keep popping up on my phone, can't get rid of it.

Welcome to the forums!

Most carriers will only let you put off the update a few times and will eventually self install. I think Sprint phones, not service, are the only ones that can turn off the updater without rooting the device.
