The WIFI button cannot be activated. Under normal circumstances it should turn green when switched on, but my phone remains greyed out. I have done a factory reset but the problem persists.
WIFI works fine when I am in Singapore but not in other countries.
In addition, my phone is barely 8 mths old but already battery is draining quickly and phone overheats easily.

Not sure about the Wi-Fi problem but as far as the battery draining quickly and phone getting hot you can check what is consuming the power as follows:
Open Settings. Select Power Management, then check the App power consumption and Battery Usage items. These will give you information about what is consuming e most power.

Thanks for helpful reply. I had to replace the motherboard to fix the WIFI problem. This is the second motherboard replacement in 6 months!
