Samsung S3 black screen of death

[AC Question]

Several months ago, my phone suffered some damage from a long fall and the whole screen cracked, but it was still functioning. I didn't have any issues until all of the sudden, the screen just went black. I had just sent a text message, looked down when i heard notifications, and it wouldn't display. You could touch the screen, and you could hear it oppening apps, but there's nothing on the screen. On the bottom left there were tiny red and blue and green light. I've tried taking the battery out, but that doesn't work. I don't want to buy an entirely new phone, but is there a way I can replace the screen to get it to work? would that help? Am I just screwed here?
