Why does my Samsung battery drain so quickly?

This happens mostly on the weekends. The phone will be 100 percent and sometimes within an hour you get lo battery warning. This occurs on my S3 and my wifes S3 phone. We only use the phone for calls and text. I was recently at a conference in louisville and met another Samsung user who says he has same issue. You can recharge the phone and it will continue to drain rapidly.
