Why do I have the wifi symbol on the top of my info bar?

Why do I have a wifi symbol at the information bar. This is something new since I purchased my Huawei phone, and will my monthly monthly bill increase when this occurs? I have only talk & text. Thank you, Kristene

Welcome to Android Central! Wi-fi is different from mobile data (3G/4G). Wi-fi connects with wi-fi networks (either at home, work, or in public places), and has nothing to do with your mobile plan.
