I have noticed that a particular folder I had created within my Gallery has disappeared - I may well have deleted it by accident, I don't know. Can I search the phone by the folder name somehow, just in case I have moved it into another folder (I have checked and I can't see the lost folder within any other folders, but just in case)?

Failing that, I want to restore the folder - how can I do so? Because I don't know when I deleted it, ideally I don't want to overwrite any new gallery items (pictures) which have been stored on the phone since the date I choose to do the restore to. If I have to select a date in which to restore to, I want to move all the new pictures and videos to my PC and then transfer them back to my phone (or similar), any suggestions for how I can be sure I am copying them all from my phone to my PC prior to doing the restore?

    Thanks

    Katie

Hi Katie, welcome to the forums! What device do you have and which gallery app are you using? Have you tried with a different gallery app from the Play Store? You could try with QuickPic

That missing folder has photos you took with your phone or downloaded from an app?

    Hi Javier

I'm posting from my profile now, I wasn't signed in when I first posted!

I am using a Galaxy s4 and the standard default gallery app.

The missing folder has photos I took, I have sent, downloaded, a mixture of items really.

    Thanks

    Katie

These are the things you could try.

    - Download a different gallery app and see if it can read the missing folder.
    - Use a file Explorer to search for it. If your stock one can't do that I'd recommend you ES File Explorer, free from the Play Store. Let me know if you need help to use it.
    - Are you using an SD card? Maybe your photos are there. Unmount the card and insert it again.
    - Do your phone or your gallery have an option to hide files?
    - Check if your phone has been backing up your pics in the cloud. If so, sign there online and maybe they were saved there.

    Hi Javier

-I have downloaded an app called 'Gallery' - image is exactly the same as the default gallery app - hasn't located the folder. Are there any particular apps which you suggest?
-No luck with file explorer - however I can only search under the album name so the photos may well be buried somewhere but where, I have no idea!
-Tried removing and reinserting the SD to no avail
-Tried the hidden files - nothing!
-I use Dropbox - for some reason no they're not in there either. Photos are grouped under month/year within Dropbox, and I have moved them from my other folders into the folder I am looking for so I wonder if this is why Dropbox hasn't brought them over? I have no idea

I have now backed everything up onto Dropbox - and with that said I am now happy to restore my gallery back to an older date - do you recommend how at all, or using any particular app? I have found this, what do you think?

I haven't used any of those recovery methods. Take a look at this other thread. There are some tips that could be helpful for you.

How to Recover Deleted Photos Albums on Note 4

I'll make a little search and will post if I find something. Report back how it went
