Galaxy S4 audio low on record and playback from apps.

I had to replace my first Galaxy S4 with another I bought used. My first phone worked perfect when recording and playing back any of and all apps that were used for this purpose. The replaced phone now with the same apps records very low and as a result plays back low. The phone works fine. The BT head phones work fine. Just the apps are bad. Any suggestions? Running Android 4.4.2

Welcome to Android Central! Check both microphone openings and make sure they're not blocked by a case or by debris. The primary phone mic should be in the usual spot at the bottom of the phone, but the secondary mic (which can be used for noise cancelling, or may also be used as the primary mic by some apps) is usually near the top of the phone.
