Why is my phone crashing and then has no battery?

At least twice a day, my phone crashes, resulting in it turning off by itself. When I say it crashes, I mean the menu comes up and goes off repeatedly (as if the touchscreen is being used , when it isn't) and then the phone goes off. This has happened at 100% battery, 30% battery etc but without fail, when I turn the phone back on it always says low battery (i.e. 1-2%) and turns back off until I plug it in to charge. This is annoying when I need to contact someone and has resulted in me buy just for this reason so that I can get my phone back on! Have contacted EE and they said it is my manufacturers problem (Samsung). However, my nearest service centre is way too far. What do you think the problem is likely to be and also the solution?
