I just did a factory reset on my galaxy s4 and now everything went back to the way it was before the software update. All of my samsung apps are the old version. How do I update to the newest software? I tried going to About Device > Software update > Check for updates, but it says there are none?

Welcome to Android Central! This is normal for a factory reset--all apps, including preinstalled Google and Samsung apps, revert to their original version. You need to search for them on Google Play Store or the Galaxy Apps Store to update them again.

Welcome to the forums. To make sure, tell us the version number of Android and the build number. They should be in Settings>about device.
