OK 2 use old Vzw phone as wifi-only device? (reactivation)

[AC Question]

I used the BB method to upgrade to a S5 over a year ago. I reset my old LG Lucid2 to factory settings. When I turn on LG Lucid it asks for me to activate phone with VZW as the first step in setting up phone.

Can I reacttivate my old phone with VZW momentarily, and then only use the device as a wifi device? Will inserting my currently working S5 SIM card in the LG Lucid cause VZW to punish my account?

If I was smart I would have simply removed apps and data manually and not done a factory reset to avoid this problem.

What's the best way to get the old phone usable on wifi?

Others in another forum helped me answer this question. It is OK to turn off current phone, remove working SIM, insert in old phone, turn on, activate it on the cell network, then turn it off, return SIM to current working phone on contract, and use old phone as wifi-only device. All of this assumes the SIM is working Vzw SIM.
