Why doesn't my voicemail not pick up calls?

One has nothing to do with the other. When happens when you long-press 1 on your phone? Do you get your voicemail account? If not, bring the phone to the carrier or call customer service and they can take you through putting in your voicemail number (which isn't your cellphone number).
