Does my alarm still go off if I leave my phone on silent?

So I have a Galaxy S5 that is running the new Android 5.0 version. I just set up a new alarm in the pre-installed clock app. The problem is, I don't know whether or not the alarm will still go off if I put my phone into silent mode so I don't get notifications at 3 am. If someone could answer this, that would be awesome. My coach would make me do extra sets if I was late to practice...

While I don't have the SGS.V, I do set my phone on silent but still the alarm does work and wake me up. Try giving your alarm a test by setting the alarm clock to a minute before from now to see if does sound off with your phone set to silent.
