Why does my phone ask for a password if I never set one?

my phon ask for pin after 3 manth i open my samsung galaxy s5 phon ?what can i do pls

hi I have Samsung galaxyS5 I did not use it at least more than 5 month ,in this time I was thinking to give it to my girl friend I open it up ,but it has asking for pin? before I did not set it by pine?
please could u help me to sort it out?

Log in to Android Device Manager using your Google account, and reset the security PIN from there.

Welcome to Android Central! Be aware that Android Device Manager will only let you remotely set a password if the phone doesn't already have screen lock set.
