Nexus 5 can't access data in China

Hi,

I just got to China and bought a China Unicom sim card for my Nexus 5 but I can't access the data network. The phone seems to connect to the network fine but can't access data. I tried the same sim card in a Note 4 and it works (connects to 4g). Any ideas?

Follow up to my previous post...I initially thought that the phone did not have internet because of the exclamation mark next to the phone reception signal but it seems that it only appears when the phone can't access Google's servers (not accessible in China). Even though it has the exclamation mark it still has internet access. I got it to load a webpage.
