Is there a custom recovery for a LG Escape 2? Or one that would work?

I've been looking but I can't find one. I'm trying to turn this low-budget phone into something at least decent.

Neither CWM or TWRP seems to have one for the Escape 2, so probably not. But check Area51 Forum - they work on a lot of "low-budget" phones.
