Smart Switch will not connect my Samsung S3 to my macbook pro

[AC Question]

Installed Smart Switch (SS). The first time SS recognized my S3 but did not go any further. Samsung chat suggested reinstalling SS (I had already rebooted the computer and the S3 two times) and updated the drivers.

Reinstalled SS and now the furthest I get is "Connecting the device..." but it never does.

Sometimes these transfer apps just suck. I typically will sync my contacts, calendar, mail etc. to Google Services so I can sync them that way. What in particular are do you need to transfer from your iOS to Android device?
